Quarterly Census of Employment & Wages (QCEW)
The QCEW program provides a count of wage and salary employment. Counts are produced for the states and counties. The counts only include those employees covered by unemployment insurance, which is about 98% of people employed at establishments. The program publishes employment and wage totals for various industries, based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
Most of the information about employment and wages comes from Unemployment Insurance records, supplemented by the collection from establishments of additional information about what each business does and the number of its employees. Data is produced quarterly and published approximately seven months after the end of the quarter.
Data Query Tool
The QCEW program provides a count of wage and salary employment. It is not as current as CES. Data for a particular quarter is released during the seventh month after the end of that quarter.
Customized queries can be run against our database using a single-screen query tool. Updated may-2-2013 with revised first and second quarter 2012 data and initial third quarter 2012 data. Starting with the data for 2011 the program has been using NAICS 2012.

Business Employment Dynamics
Business Employment Dynamics (BDM) is a set of statistics generated from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages program. These quarterly data series consist of gross job gains and gross job losses statistics from 1992 forward. Gross job gains and gross job losses reveal some aspects of business dynamics, including establishment openings and closings and establishment expansions and contractions. These data help to provide a picture of the dynamic state of the labor market.
